A garter is a women’s lingerie accessory — a narrow band, usually lace or elastic, worn around the upper thigh. Originally functional (holding up stockings before suspenders existed), the modern garter is mostly decorative, worn as a finishing piece with lingerie sets, stockings, or for occasions like bridal wear, boudoir photography, or evening pieces.
This collection covers our women’s garter range. Lace garters add an ornate, traditional finish and pair well with matching lace bras and panties for a coordinated lingerie set. Elastic-trim garters feel less ornate and more minimal. Most pieces are designed to sit comfortably on the upper thigh without slipping, with a stretch band that adjusts to the leg.
How do you wear a garter? A modern garter sits on the upper thigh, just above where the leg meets the hip, as a decorative piece worn over lingerie or under a slip or skirt. It doesn’t need to hold up stockings unless paired with a garter belt and unfinished-top hold-up stockings — most garters today are worn for the look rather than the function.
What’s the difference between a garter and a garter belt? A garter is a single decorative band worn on the thigh. A garter belt is a wider belt worn around the waist with hanging straps that clip to the top of stockings — it’s the functional version that actually holds up hosiery. The two are different pieces, though they often appear together in vintage and bridal lingerie sets.
When are garters worn? Garters are most commonly worn as a wedding tradition (the bridal garter), for boudoir or lingerie photography, as part of a special-occasion lingerie set, or as a styling accent with a slip dress or evening look. They aren’t typical daily wear.
How do I choose the right garter size? Measure around your upper thigh where the garter will sit — about 10–15 cm above the knee. Most garters have a stretch band that fits a range, but if you sit at the higher end of the range, size up for comfort during a full evening of wear.
